Dragon Age 2 Nightmare Impossible?

Anyone else finding themselves struggling immensely with nightmare mode on Dragon Age 2 opposed to Origins? I swear I've been playing for like 4 hours and only passed 30 minutes of the game (exploiting the cheapest game mechanics too such as kiting to maintain my survival.)

Anyways, let's celebrate the release of Dragon Age 2 -- this is me playing... Like a boss.

Finally beat it by focusing the ranged guys down early, giving my PC a bow and kiting the melees back and forth between the sister for over 20 minutes...

@Abraxis86 Yeh, it's hopeless, I killed the first assassin in the estate, I couldn't pass it so I went looking for easier side quests, I killed those two squads at the beach place then I gave up and went looking fro easier quests.. Now I'm trapped by templars since it auto-saved against like 3 archers, 5 melee, and 1 lt. GG >_>

Yeah this is a hell of a lot more difficult than Origins ... this game got a lot of flak for being simplified, and sure, it's simpler, but it's NOT easier. SO MANY ENEMIES! Yet it's doable – look at Arelex's videos, she's making Nightmare look easy, even playing on an Xbox

Just got to Act 2. I use Aveline for big bosses but i like using Fenris w/ Merrill and Anders. I am a DW Rogue. It's a very massive DPS orientated nightmare team. I like using Fenris because of his DPS AOE + stagger effects. My casters all have chain lightning, petrify, crushing prison, stone fist (knockback). Upgraded mighty blow so it also has good nuking effect w/ petrify 1.2k damage. This is my usual strategy. Works amazing so far. Massive Crowd control ftw :).

@yellowman88 lol i finally beat them, not 5 at the same time though, i gotta pull the 1st wave way back to the beginning of the map so that the 2nd wave will not attack me. I ended up fighting only 3 assassins at once.

and yes they are all elite assassins (including the mini boss for that particular quest)

i highly recommend you get your warrior to master shield bash to get 100% stagger and your magesgo for chain lightning. i can hit up to 4k damage with chain lightning on staggered targets.

OK some tips to help

1. get a mage channeling base weapon elemental damage through entire team with either spirit or fire with sustained mode elemental weapons (fire bonuses highest possible to get)

2. Anders needs to be a dedicated healer so give him high willpower.

3. use defensive sustained modes and on tank not offensive and stack threat generation any way you can.

4. i tend to run merril as dps mage channeling fire dps/spirit

4 anders and me as mage protect her with 2 sustained healing

lol when you do "Inside Job" in Act 2 you'll know what impossibility means. there will be 5 assassins waiting for you lol. this is still easy.
