I want to know who his tailor is. With a coat like that how can you go wrong? Interesting how he changes the words to "but the saddest of all, they don't hang on the wall". I may try to use those words, they kind of make more sense.

The first version I heard was that of Woody Guthrie's which is my favorite by far,
But still judging from the word's it must have been written somewhere from the 1850's to the 1930's, and I love it.

There are some conflicting information about who wrote it. But it seems to be credited to either Charles E. Baer or B. Vaughn, and published at least as early as 1896.
And Hank did an excellent version of the song.
