At this time of year I am invariably playing a number of holiday gigs and find myself re-learning all of the traditional songs that I forgot from last year. For fun, I enjoy trying different arrangements and applying different styles of playing to keep things interesting. My apologies to anyone who prefers their holiday music played with more of a traditional approach and for you I suggest the great tutorial by 7notemode here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JBQcpcGBbo
One aspect of the phenomenal style of McCoy Tyner is his amazing ability to incorporate the use of pentatonic scales while playing through a series of chord changes. This unmistakable "McCoy" sound is very pleasing to my ears and I enjoy playing in this style. CAUTION: This video is very heavy with the use of pentatonics in order to help with the learning of this style. Use this technique prudently in an actual performance.

As always, thank you for listening.
Just heard it today, been sidelined for a bit. The most exciting version of this tune I've ever heard. The latin rythym gives it an upbeat feeling and the extra harmonies in the intro, solos, and exit gave it much more variety than usual. Loved it.
