On sept. 11th 2004 audi came back to their roots. Back to the place of birth of the legendary Auto Union racecars. To a city called Zwickau.
So i had the chance to film these beautiful cars which were born in the same city like me. ;)

Enjoy the incredible sound of these monsters.

Type A (no number) - Driver: The Stig???
Type C (number 5) - Driver: Tom Kristensen
Type D (number 4) - Driver: Martin Tomczyk

Edit March 2010: found a great wallpaper of this event.

  • Which type is the car that has no number on the body?

  • Type A

  • No wings, traction control or paddle gear change back then!

  • 3:15, so evil sounding.

  • aren't these the last surviving auto union racecars?

  • This is a very "dull" video. =p

  • super cool video, very very nice , very impressive thank you .

  • Type C (5) and D (4) are originals and Type A (1) is a replica, right?

  • Great video and cool sound. Many comments on the vehicles and the history of Auto Union. Some of the comments were way off. Auto Union was made in 1932 as a result of the hard times in the world at the time. It was made "on" 4 car companys: Horch, Wanderer, Audi and DKW. All 4 companies were based in Sachsen/Saxony Germany. But at the time of the merger DKW had control over AUDI. DKW got that control in 1928, where DKW took over AUDI. Best regards Jan/DK
  • i wonder what the run time on those older race tire's were?

it couldnt have been very long

as the torque of those engine's really used them up quick.
