Montage - Subscriber request for Jim Photoglo's 'We Were Meant To Be Lovers' from 1980. I honestly barely remembered this song if at all, but its kinda growing on me all over again. heh.

Lyrics:

The night was full of dancers
Caught up in the light
On a sea of lonely faces
The ships pass in the night

The air was full of magic
The stars were in my eyes
But when we started dancing
There was only you and I

We were meant to be lovers
Candles in the night
You and me eternally
Until the end of time

We were meant to be lovers
Our flame will burn out bright
It's written in the stars
You were meant to be mine.

Well, I know we've both been here before
Love comes then it's gone
So many midnight promises
Get broken by the dawn

And Heaven knows a candle glows
Until it disappears
So while our flame is burning bright
Let's cast away our fears.

We were meant to be lovers
Candles in the night
You and me eternally
Until the end of time

We were meant to be lovers
Our flame will burn out bright
It's written in the stars
You were meant to be mine

  • Not only is this one of my favorite songs of the 80s, it's one of my favorites of all time! Why this wasn't a bigger hit I'll never know. I bought the single when it came out and played it to death! Jim Photoglo should be better known. He's still recording by the way. His latest album is called "Is It Me?"

  • I'm with kevinhof63. It is one of the finest. Thank you for posting

  • BEST SONG EVER.

  • Jim Photoglo was also Dan Fogelberg's bassist in the late 80s-early 90s. I have Dan's "Greetings From The West" DVD and there's Jim, rockin' right along with Dan!

  • I loved this song, I still have the 45 it reminds me of a rainy night.

  • I really love this guy now just as much as back in the 80's....too bad he isn't better known. Thanks for a great song and video.

  • Jim hit #31 in Billboard, 6-14-80. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • My God! What a voice? What a harmony? One of the best ever ballads I have always been attracted to.Sad they don't make it this way now a days.

The first time I heard it on the VOA Breakfast Show in mid 1980, the host Phil Irwin said what?He said that Jim is an old, old name but Photoglo is fairly modern-Kodak invented photography in the 19th century!

I too am with Kevin and fully share his views.Touches the heart simply said!!

  • good song.. have it on (YIKES!!!) 8 track, of all things....

  • This song should have made the Top 20, not #31

  • Many thanks for sharing this wonderful video and song. Greta song, great singer, love the song. saludos de Guatemala-
