'sfar as the lubricating goes, well, it depends on the make and type of material, but whatever you decide with the clarinet, it's imperative to use the same lotion as you do for your daily 15-20 min practice of serious pud pulling.
Is it necessary to oil your clarinet? Maybe to prevent it from cracking ? I don't know. When I got my first wooden clarinet 11 years ago or so I was told to oil it every 2 months or so to prevent it from cracking. I was also taught to play the new wooden clarinet slowly in. Now when I got my 3rd Bb wooden clarinet in 2005 I was told to play like 15-20 minutes the first 5 days two times per day in morning and in the evening. And I don't oil it. In both cases it didn't/hasn't crack.
