This video is about all the supplies you will need for your guinea pigs, plus a few extra recommended ones that do come in handy :)
You can use this as a 'shopping list' if you are planning on buying some guinea pigs, or if you already have pigs and you want to make sure you have all the necessary supplies.

Things you will need :
- A cage. I would highly recommend a C&C cage! Check out http://www.guineapigcages.com/ for more info :)

- Bedding. Eg : fleece, Carefresh, wood pellet litter...

- Timothy hay.
- Hay rack.
- Guinea pig dry food mix such as nuggets or pellets, not the muesli type.
- Fresh vegetables and a few fruits.
- 2 ceramic food bowls.
- 1 or 2 water bottles.

- At least 2 hidey houses : pigaloo's, wooden huts, etc..
- a tunnel : fleece tunnel, chube, PVC pipe, etc...
- plenty of chew toys to keep teeth down!

- dustpan and brush
- kitchen towel (or paper towels)
- pet-safe disenfectant
- vinegar (for calcium stains)
- small scrubbing brush
- pooper scooper!
- newspaper

- small animal nail clippers
- corn flour (just in case you cut the quick of the nail and make it bleed!)
- soft brush for short haired pigs
- metal toothed comb for long haired pigs
- small animal shampoo
- pet-safe grooming wipes
- Swarfega for grease glands (boars only)

- pet carrier for vet trips
- the contact details of your nearest *cavy savvy* vet!
- reliable guinea pig care books for quick reference
- notebook and pen to jot down weight / details of any illnesses
- weighing scales (for weekly weigh-ins)

- a small first aid kit that contains corn flour, Swarfega or coconut oil, cotton buds, cotton pads, gauze for wrapping wounds, a tea towel for wrapping guinea pigs for teeth inspection, syringes for hand feedng and disposable gloves.

Thanks so much for watching! Feel free to leave any comments, questions or video requests :) xx

  • Very helpful!!!

  • @Crazy4Guineapigs1 Thankyou! I'm glad it helped :)

  • Are nuggets/pellets better than musilli?

  • @wolfsheart100 Yes, definitely! :) With muesli, the guinea pigs are likely to 'select feed' which is where they pick out the bits they like and will leave the rest, which means they don't get the full range of nutrients from the food. Plus, muesli mixes often have artificial colours and flavours so it's basically like the 'junk food' of the guinea pig world! Nuggets or pellets are much better - they all taste the same and they don't have any unhealthy or dangerous bits in them :) xx

  • You sound very young, but very informed. This video really should be watched by every single to-be-guinea-pig-owner. VERY useful and accurate.

  • thumbs up if she said um more than one time

  • ourpigies are form Petland( no bad comments about pet store pigs, i think shelter pigs don't live as long anyways, plus, our closest shelter doesn't always have guinea pigs) offers a free nail clipping program for a year and you renew it every year and all you have to pay is $9 when you renew or first sign up:) its way safer than me trying to cut her nails by myself

  • no offense, but i wouldn't reccomend the cardbopad chewalbe tunnels, we got one for our pigs and the next day, it was pooy, and covered in urine, obviously cardboard cannto be cleaned, so we had no choice but to throw it away, but sorry, again, that is just my opinion:)

  • our fleece doesn't get dirty, by a day and our piggies are not litter trained, were trying, without success:( we done like everything to get them litter trained, we use towels under our fleece, and now we have two pieces of fleece in their cage to make a little area where their food is and stuff. the cage isn't real dirty after a day

  • every helpfull thanks iam getting a guinea pig soon so need loads of envice could u uplod a video of what do do with them and thing thanks #!!x

  • are guinea pigs more popular in the UK than in the US?

  • Thanx anyway, you gave me alot of very good recomandations :)

  • i actually got a pet store cage, and its really big. Also he/she could get exersise by getting a playpen because the cage isn't meant for exercising, it's meant for a shelter.

  • When you said about the poty training I thought like in my school I once was P.O.T.Y (Pupil Of The Year) :D
