I wore a LOT of make up when I was like, 12. I guess it's different in the UK since I've had American friends tell me thy were shocked to see pretty much everybody wearing makeup on a daily basis. I wish I hadn't done it though, I used it to cover up skin problems but it only made them worse and now I have to rely on makeup if I don't want the scars to show. I would have hated them for it, but I wish my parents had said something. Grey areas, yay!

That's not even funny. And...beauty isn't just physical appearance, you know. She could be referring to internal beauty, in which case it may be easier to indicate whether someone is beautiful or not without having seen them.

How is makeup not a tax on women, something to make them rely on men/others to feel good about themselves? SELF-confidence comes from you, by approaching your insecurities constructively and standing by them. Control is not imposed by telling you what to do, it is imposed by deceiving, by skewing the "choice" between looking "LIKE SHIT", and looking "GREAT" in makeups/moneys favor. Women are wonderful, exquisite, as they are, and deserve to be appreciated for their person.

Dear Amy,

I'm 19 &a freshman in college. I've always been super shy in school &tht's one of the reasons tht I've nevr had a boyfriend. I haven't even had my first kiss. I feel weird about this cuz of me being the age tht I am &not had my first kiss yet. Do u have any advice for me? Should I feel weird about this? I've even thought about just kissin someone random just so I could say tht I've had my first kiss...but I want my first kiss to mean somethin. You can't cheat your first kiss..
