Jamaica Live Reggae Music

We went on a cruise and when we docked in Montego Bay, Jamaica - these guys were playing and they were incredible. Live, it was one of the best memories that I have from the cruise. It is hard to appreciate how good they were without being there.... but here it is!

This is actually "mento", which came before "reggae".

Mento, ska, rock steady, ragga are NOT reggae!

Thrash Metal evolved from rock-and-roll, but it's not quite the same....

Mento was our 'mountain music'.

My late great-uncle played fiddle, they used rhumba box for bass, and banjo (he said guitar was a 'modern' addition).

He went to US in early 1900s, said jazz was called 'jackass' music then!

u get lots of these kinds of bands in JA especially in big hotels etc.
