We went on a cruise and when we docked in Montego Bay, Jamaica - these guys were playing and they were incredible. Live, it was one of the best memories that I have from the cruise. It is hard to appreciate how good they were without being there.... but here it is!

  • This is actually "mento", which came before "reggae".

Mento, ska, rock steady, ragga are NOT reggae!

Thrash Metal evolved from rock-and-roll, but it's not quite the same....

  • thanks for the info. i loved the music and the vibe. i'll look into some more "mento".

    thanks! verona

  • i went there with royal carribean and saw them they were amazing!

  • by the river of Babylon is a good song too!

  • hey i was on that ship a couple years ago carnival conquest

  • Mento was our 'mountain music'.

My late great-uncle played fiddle, they used rhumba box for bass, and banjo (he said guitar was a 'modern' addition).

He went to US in early 1900s, said jazz was called 'jackass' music then!

  • u get lots of these kinds of bands in JA especially in big hotels etc.
