WRONG!!! Whats with all of extra 90's?? All you need is one. Buy a foot of 1/2 inch type "L" copper tubing. Problem solved.

Im sorry but I have to say that this is most definitely a DIY job. Actual soldering with flux, and solder is impossible with a pipe that is full of water. Perhaps a more suitable title would be 'how to remove water from a soldered pipe'?

A word to the wise------heating up copper lines with any water inside can turn nasty real quick. If you do manage to get the pipe hot enough to melt the solder-the boiling water/ steam inside will blow the joint open in your puss. BE CAREFUL !!

Shut off water supply in. Open drain valve at bottom of tank. Open all hot & cold water faucets upstairs including outside faucets. Let water drain back to tank & out drain valve. Heat 90 & remove. Clean old pipe, new 90, flux & solder in. Be sure to check your torch gas supply & that you have correct fittings on hand.

It's not a hot water heater, its a water heater.

make a hole on the bottom with a small drill and it will come off very fast
I'll post a video of a new sump pump i installed at the bottom of my stair way to never ave that happen again, you might like it. I also have a 5500 watt generator backfeeding a doule pole 20 amp breaker in emergency situations. You should consider somethng like that so you don't have to worry about power outages anymore.

@vinceleto Oh no I have that as well. But the water was coming in so mad that no pump could keep up. So then it was a lost and we let it go. Let the insurance figure it out, LOL.

Great work paisano. Looks like you do a little bit of everything. I'm in north jersey and we know all about Irene. Luckily we did not loose power and the pump cycled every minute. I did get some seepage and had to replace 8 sheets of sheetrock because originally it was installed touching the ground and acted as a wick. I would have liked to take a video but had no time to think about that.

Why not just cut the 90 in half with a hacksaw ..then after it drains .. De solder it then replace it...

@sweetkellymay If you cut anything then your pipes will be to short then you'll have issues.
