Artist: Stewart Copeland(Klark Kent)
Album: "Just In Time For Christmas"
1990 I.R.S. Records
Stewart wrote this and released "as Klark Kent". He may have recorded most of the song in 1978-80, but the extra synthesizer layers were most likely added later.

  • "Don't Care" went to #1 before "Roxanne." "Yo Ho Ho" sounds like it was recorded much later than the original record and sounds lame compared to the early stuff.

  • @lucrativeangst I edited the info. Check it out. And it is the silliness of the song that gives it its value.

  • @NotOrdinaryInGames Firstly, thanks for posting this rare KK track! When you get down to it, everything Stew writes is kind of silly, even his soundtracks. What I meant was, Stew's sound in the mid-80s into the 90s was very sterile. It doesn't have the powerpop/punk quirkiness that the original album did. He got hooked on using the Fairlight and all his stuff sounded the same. Thank god he and Sting couldn't agree on which workstation to use or we'd have an entire album of DSSCTM'86!

  • @lucrativeangst Fairlight? What's that? Anyway, I own pretty much his entire discography, and I can say his "stuff" does not sound all the same. For example, Leopard Son and Ben Hur Live sound nothing like his work on Wall Street and Equalizer. And Silent Fall soundtrack doesn't sound like The Rhythmatist.

  • @NotOrdinaryInGames I am a huge fan of Stew's and know quite a bit about his works before and after The Police, especially his obsession with the Fairlight synth workstation and how much of his music sounds very similar between 1985 and 1998. Rapa Nui, Wall Street, Equalizer, Talk Radio, The First Power, Highlander 2, all very similar. Rumblefish is genius because he mixed the Musync with real instruments. "Yo Ho Ho" simply doesn't sound like a KK song because of the slick, sterile production.

  • @lucrativeangst Thanks, now I know :)

Also, I am one of the few ppl in teh wurld who have Ben Hur Live soundtrack. U jelly?

  • THIS IS JUST A GREAT SONG!!!!!!!!!.... AND A GIFT TO HIS WIFE!.....(HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU)

  • @lucrativeangst ^^ this is all sacrilege up here ^^

Anyway there is nothing silly about any of his soundtrack work except maybe the odd comedy where he pretty much phoned it in. The fairlight is just a medium but it's the patterns, the rhythmic and melodic/chordal structures that Copeland creates that define his music. A song like We Know Where You Live from Talk Radio has a genuinely ominous sound as does Metal Head from Spyro The Dragon. A lot of his work is whimsical but "silly" is an insult.

  • @NotOrdinaryInGames Maaaaaybe... I'll trade you the rare "Truth Hits Everybody" remix from the "Every Breath You Take" 7-inch for it!
