Just kind of an infoey video. I always tell people to start out small and build up from there. As an example, here's sort of a timeline of games I've made over the past 9ish years.

Oh, and incase you're wondering what I use:

* Before age 12 - PowerBasic, mainly made Mad Libs
* Ages 12 through 14 - Visual Basic, made crappy VB adventure games
* 14 - Began learning C++
* 16 - Began learning Allegro, so all games used this for a while.
* 19 - Began learning some OpenGL and SDL, but as of right now haven't really released anything made with SDL (Except Shattered Wrath), and haven't completed anything with OpenGL.

Tools:
C++ w/ Code::Blocks IDE
Allegro, SDL, OpenGL, Lua

Sprite graphics: Paint Shop Pro 6
Other drawn stuff: GIMP

Sounds:
Audacity, SFXR, my Yamaha MM8 Keyboard

  • Your video is popular on Benin

  • @elvinhickma12k What is Benin?

  • very inspiring thx for sharing

    who got u started on programing and game making? how supportive were the people around u at that time?

    game making is hard but is fun and you learn so much about the virtual and real world, is like knowing how the universe works :0, good sensation in the end and is why i like it so much

    u r a rare gem , am sure anyone would love having u in their team or workplace

  • @madjunir

    I just liked playing video games, and was infatuated with anything related to computers.

    My step brother originally had wanted to be a game programmer, which made me realize that people actually made games I guess (was young o.0). He didn't keep up with it though.

    As for support, neither of my parents were really interested in the stuff I made, so it was kind of annoying, but they did provide me with books and such.

  • What programs u use??

  • The language I use is C++, with the Code::Blocks IDE. I usually use it with either Allegro or SDL to handle graphics, input, sound, etc. (I started with Allegro but now have been using SDL more)

    For graphics, I usually use Paint Shop Pro 6, and for music I just have a spiffy keyboard (piano, not compy keyboard)

  • Your video went viral on Vatican City

  • @CoderRach lusikkamage?

  • @SuperShadowMarioFan I would like to remake Rawr Rinth at some point, perhaps soon, perhaps for a certain console...

  • if there was one you wanted to finish off...which would it be LusikkaMage?

  • started learning C++ at the same age as me :)

  • thanks for sharing

  • @LusikkaMage Same here. None of my friends are interested and my parents don't give a damn. They only seem to respect the fact that I want to spend most of my time in my room programming. If you are an attention seeker and want to be noticed, do not do programming until you have left school and are in college XD

  • I am 16 years old and started at about the age of 12. I started trying to learn C++ which was a stupid idea, as I was just a little child who wanted to make an MMORPG at the time. Then I realized the realism of the situation, it would take me some serious practice. I started making games in AS2 (flash script) and then I was almost forced into learning AS3, so I did. Now, 4 years later, I found a pal and we are making an online RPG with a Map-Editor, PvP and more. Train, and it'll be worth it!.
