This photo album was taken from Nakijin village during the Battle of Okinawa in WWII. It is my goal to return it to the family.
この写真アルバムは 沖縄戦争で今帰仁村から 取ってきました。もし出来たら山城の親戚に返したいです。

UPDATE:
The photo album belonged to a nurse named Kazue who worked at the former Hokuzan Byouin in Nago. I was recently fortunate enough to be able to return the album and other items to her sister and also her best friend Haru. Thank you Ms. Nakazato at the Nakijin Chamber of Commerce for all your help in locating them for me.

  • Thanks for posting this beautiful clip. We have learned so little. In places like Iraq, Once great America is waging war, along with almost 4000 American families torn apart from the death and destruction, more than 600,000 Iraqis are dead. What a precious reminder this video is of the sadness and despair that war brings...thank you

  • Thank you for sharing, truely amazing, such a beautiful family... I really hope you find someone from the family, I would love to know your progress and outcome and maybe you could post a reunion clip.

Good luck and keep us posted

  • My husbands family is Yamahiro also from Okinawa

    thanks for posting

  • You're awesome for doing what you did in returning that photo album. Very cool, indeed.

  • 感動した。悲しいですね。

  • What kind of insensitive comment is that? To tell someone who is being contrite about the senselessness of war, that he/she should be ashamed, reeks of callousness and a profound lack of intelligence. Those who have lost a loved one in any war hardly ever forgets...

  • My mother's maiden name was Yamashiro and my grandparents also survived in this war. I loved this song my grandma always sings it to me.

  • my okinawan friends gave me the nickname yamashiro. im american

  • My father is also Okinawan (72 years old now) and as a child he also survived in a cave during WWII for 2 months. My grandmother was part of the Yamashiro family. Thank you for sharing such wonderful pictures.

  • This makes me feel good in my heart. My mother is Okinawan, and as a girl she survived in a cave during the war. She is 74 this year. I am living in Okinawa, and have for 26 yrs since 1969; visiting that cave is spiritual. Those who give Okinawa an open mind will always have it in their heart. I practice Okinawan Karate for 37 years and meet many older Okinawans.... such good folks.
