This spot highlights Mark Messier's bold guarantee. In the 1994 Eastern Conference Finals, Messier's Rangers were down 3 games to 2. Messier boldly guaranteed victory. Then delivered with a hat trick. The Rangers went on the Stanley Cup finals and won the cup. It made Messier a New York legend and helped end the Rangers 54-year drought.

there is no video of him saying it. the papers made a story and wanted him to say it. i am a rangers fan, so. but the fact is he bought into it. so there isn't a video, and assholes say its bullshit, but the fact that he allowed the papers to run it means he made the guarantee

@ddss6 With all of the sports writers in New York, no one admitted to being the one Messier said it to. It's possible that it was made up.

The video is misleading if you are not a hockey fan or did not know what happened in 1994.
It makes it sound like Messier literally won the cup by beating the Devils in game 6.

Oh forgive me, I must have drastically underestimated the integrity of the print media and their dedication to the printing of verbatim quotes while never paraphrasing or reshaping the context in which they were said.
