The short answer is that we need MEs on every project here. Usually, they'll start off doing ME type work, engineering all of the tangible deliverables we produce.
Long term, MEs, and all engineers here end up doing whatever they're passionate about. There's so much freedom here, careers can be very fluid. Eventually, the thing you are doing becomes the thing you want to do most!
