[Video #12] from http://www.youtube.com/user/MetalGuruMessiah the address for MetalGuruMessiah's Musical Paint Box! Check out my other videos!

My 12th video in a series I'm working on for some of my favorite songs from the past.

Flash And The Pan's debut album was released in 1979 and was loaded with really cool tunes. It was something very different and nearly every song on it was a standout. "Down Among The Dead Men", "African Shuffle", "Hey, St. Peter", "Walking In The Rain", and especially, "Man In The Middle" are my favorites.

Although I try to steer clear of making videos for songs which have an official video release, I had to make an exception for this song, which did have an official video.....but......I just always thought it far too silly for the subject matter.

Another great song, by another great band....and, I hope.....another enjoyable video.

[Lyrics]
It was night
A starry moonless sight
Out in the mid Atlantic
There sailed a ship of light
She was big This ship of luxury
Everything was peaceful
No safer place to be

And she sailed
Through the night
On her way
Down among the dead men
Down among the dead men
The band played
She sailed the virgin
She sailed the sea
Down among the dead men

Captain Smith
The master in command
A man with wealth of wisdom
A fine upstanding man
But the fog He didn't hear the calls
The ice mountain was waiting
For fifteen hundred souls

And she sailed
Through the night
On her way Down among the dead men
Down among the dead men
The band played
She sailed the virgin
She sailed the sea
Down among the dead men
Down among the dead men
And into history

  • LOVE this song .... one of my all time faves. :-)

  • @nonnamadonna

Thank you so much for checking it out and commenting!

  • That was great and well done, but lighten up folks. The orriginal video is classic Australiana from the late 70's. It is a fantasic clip and the boys were just having fun.

  • @ind347

Agree that the original video is classic and a perfect representation of it's time. My version is not meant to take away from it in any way, but rather as an alternate, a little more focused on the actual tragedy of the subject of the song, the sinking of the Titanic.

I just hope my little tribute can be seen for what it was intended, to respectfully re-imagine one of my favorite tunes and see how it plays with more dramatic images behind it?

Thank you for a thoughtful comment!

Yeah, Bowie is a favorite of mine as well. Cool that we're in agreement about Diamond Dogs being underrated, I think the tone was too down and the subject matter too bleak for the album to find greater acceptance...and Sweet Thing is an awesome tune!

    Thanks for staying in touch!

  • @MetalGuruMessiah Hey no problem man, I see you have We Are The Dead off Diamond dogs. I'm a HUGE Bowie fan. That whole album was greatly under-appreciated in general. Sweet Thing Candidate Sweet thing Reprise has to be my favorite off that album.

Anyway, keep the music alive. PEACE:)

Thanks for checking it out! There was definitely alot of cheese in some of those 80's vids and yeah, I agree...some were quite tasty! LOL!

Thanks again for watching....and for commenting.

  • @MetalGuruMessiah Excellent work on the videos bud! you did a great job with this and as the other person mentioned the original indeed blew! LOL. Mind you there were a LOt cheesy videos in the early 80's but in a way that's what made some of them so good.
