That start bottle burned out quick.

To launch a rocket this large, you need to have some level of high-power certification from either the NAR or Tripoli. You also need an FAA waiver to fly it. I'd recommend attending an established launch, which will probably already have a waiver in place, so you don't have to go through lots of paperwork.

You need FAA clearance for large rockets because they can interfere with airplanes. You usually get an hour of time to launch.

nice. dumb question though, from someone who knows nothing about model rocketry... do you have to get some kind of permission to launch a rocket that big to 14000 feet? Or is this in a designated spot where you know there'll be no air traffic?

The uncompressed video is pretty good. I compressed it to put it on YouTube a long time ago... never had the time to load the full uncompressed video there
