Visit an organic farm in downstate Chatsworth, Ill., where two farmers run a raw milk business, in which the milk isn't pasteurized or homogenized. Instead, it is bottled and sold shortly after it is produced from the cow.
True. Now, I for one, think that raw milk is far more nutritious than pasteurized milk, because at least raw milk contains REAL calcium and vitamin D. However, I think that if you have been drinking pasteurized your entire life and then all of a sudden switch to raw milk, you may have some health issues. However, some people have been drinking raw milk their entire lives with no problems. You also have to look at what the cows were fed (grass or grains).
Soy milk is also good, just need to get your necessary dose of fats from other sources.
Found out the fat in milk is what carries calcium through your system. That's something commercial products are blatantly ignoring with skim/lowfat variants. If it's too thin, it can't carry vitamins. /derp
What I will do is keep the name of Louis Pasteur high on my list of heroes and great thinkers who persevered abuse by the medical profession who could not accept a good idea from a chemist, yet went about every day spreading infection and death to the very people they claimed to be saving. In the end they had to be forced into proper hygiene. The discoveries of Pasteur are responsible for millions of lives saved and in no small part, to our way of life today. Thank You, Mr Pasteur
Raw milk, being somewhat of a gamble to ones health, works well in a micro environment. To ramp up production now, would pose too many problems to a society that is no longer agrarian, not to mention the astronomical cost factor. I resolve to drink neither raw or pasteurized milk. Leave it to the calves.
I've got to get myself some raw milk. It sounds tasty. Luckily, raw milk itself is legal in England, but it can be sold only directly at a farm or by mail order.
Me and my family have been on raw milk most of our lives, but my cow is dry now. She should calve in September and then we can go back to raw milk. When I was growing up most people around here drank raw milk and I have never heard of a problem. It just needs to be handled in a clean way. I would hate to think I had to live the rest of my life drinking this watered down store-bought stuff.
