Concertrecording of The Gents by NHK (Japan) of concert at Sumida Triphony Hall, Tokyo/Japan, on 23 April 2005.

Initiated by the conductor Peter Dijkstra, a talented group of 16 young men, all having sung in The Roden Boys Choir, recognised as one of the best boy choirs in The Netherlands, formed themselves in 1999 into a separate choir called 'The Gents', a all-male ensemble consisting of countertenors, tenors, baritones and basses.

The Gents aim to attract a wide but especially young audience. They want to inspire and create new possibilities for the next generation of talented young musicians. Besides concerts and CD recordings, The Gents also regularly participate in various projects, opera's and TV/radio broadcasts. With their unique sound and broad repertoire ranging from medieval chansons to pop, the group takes place among the top vocal ensembles.

As from January 2007 Maria van Nieukerken is artistic leader from The Gents.

  • This song is ridiculously moving although I am neither Irish, English, American or Canadian or in any way racially or ethnically related. Its probably the most beautiful song of all time, on a global scale.
