@jazzgirl1920s -Napoleon's improvising style and presentation of songs had evolved as well from the collective polyphony of the New Orleans Trad. style to the new solo concept. I'm assuming that Joe Tarto is on this side. I met Joe when he was playing with Chuck Slate's Traditional Jazz Band in 1974. Had an interesting conversation with Joe. He showed me his autograph book from the 1920's. Some of the entries were priceless and not just in the monetary sense.

This is such a lovely version of this. I'm a big fan of the few sides Phil Napoleon etc cut as Napoleon's Emperors. I have a British HMV release of You Can't Cheat A Cheater in my videos. Check it out if you have a mo.

I like this recording by Phil Napoleon because it was an electric recording made for Victor in 1929 and has a lot better sound quality than the recordings Phil Napoleon made with the Original Memphis Five in the early 1920's which were acoustical recordings.
