  • I don't honestly known what Demoscene or Assembly is...care to explain to me why you are uploading all of these type of videos today?

  • @BloodyRory

The demo scene is a form of digital art. It's a culture.

What you see in these videos, is recordings of real time code, graphics and music, put together by very capable groups or individuals, that showcase their imagination and abilities.

The "Assembly 2011" you see on the title, is one of the many parties that take place every year. Demos are released in these parties and not only demos.

I'd suggest to read some more about the demo scene in wikipedia! It's magical! :)

  • @BloodyRory .. Also Assembly in this case is the demo party in Finland which happen to be in August every year.

Assembler is a programming language which let you tell the computer to do very simple functions and hence the environment don't do much for you but you've got total control of what's happening with the hardware. I doubt anyone would do a production like this all in Assembler though .. :D

  • I'm terribly fed up with comments about "why is this so special?!" under demo videos.

Can't you at least appreciate the look of it? ...even if you don't know how it was made, or where it was first shown, it... looks nice, doesn't it? Then what's the naive questioning about all the time?!

  • @BloodyRory

This video is a 100MB download (720p). Anyone could have created that in some 3D/post processing software. But the code that runs this show is a 134 kilobyte executable (7mb with all the data as a zip file), and it's 'rendered' in real time as you watch it. This is a culture that is about maximizing the coolness of the show and at the same time have the resources needed to run it as low as possible.

  • Trawling around memory lane for old A500 demos I stumble on this little gem and realise the demo scene is still alive! Excellent work!

  • Just AMAZING!!! Coding Gods.....

  • oldschool cool msx and propper codding.. szacun! cool!!

  • @blade004 What really impresses me is some of the demos that I've seen here on YouTube that run on an unexpanded VIC-20! Not because of the quality of the demo, but because of the limitations of the VIC... only 5k of RAM, 3 tone generators, 8 colors, limited resolution (176 x 184 without using special tricks), and so on. Do a search for 'Robotic Liberation by PWP' if you're curious.

  • @HetDerwel Just out of curiosity though, which demo group are you with?.

  • @HetDerwel I just checked out Spin, and it absolutely BLEW ME AWAY!. It truly is the most incredible demo i have scene in a very long time as well!!, musically, visually, creatively, it's got it all :) Thanks for letting me know about it :)
