http://www.GuitarToolbox.com - How to use pentatonic scale patterns over chords. This example uses patterns 1, 3 and 4 to play over a blues in A minor on the 5th fret.

This allows you to play Am pentatonic, Dm pentatonic and Em pentatonic patterns all on the 5th fret.

  • great lesson.

  • are you playing a dad guitar?

  • you have an epic voice, dude.

  • @tortoiseutube Thanks for the advice. If I am lucky enough to get a job, then I might consider a guitar teacher at some point. I think the main reason why I was struggling with barre chords was because of my acoustic guitar. I played my friends electric guitar and I could play the chords that I knew perfectly. My playing also sounded different on my friends electric guitar and his acoustic also. Thanks once again for replying to my comment.

  • @ANOTHERHOLEINYOHEAD stay with it it pays off and i sounded like crud for 6 months because i kept trying rock not the fundamentals-you need a basic skill of all types of music

  • @ANOTHERHOLEINYOHEAD Go to a guitar teacher for a while. He'll help you fix what's wrong and put you on the right track. Also, you need a system or method to learn properly. Just learning bits and pieces here and there off the internet is a really slow and frustrating way to learn.

  • @tortoiseutube I am starting to get frustated with the guitar. I have been learning since late August and even basic chords dont sound good when I play them. Is it normal to still sound rubbish, despite the fact I have been learning for roughly about 3 months.

  • @bbluesguitarr just go with whatevers comfortable for you

  • @PRANKCALLS At the moment I am trying to learn both barre chords and the Pentatonic scale. I would like to become a heavy metal guitarist like yourself so scales are important. However I feel barre chords are as well. I have a long way to go because I have only been learning for a few weeks.

  • @ANOTHERHOLEINYOHEAD I actually learned the Pentatonic and Harmonic scales before I learned bar chords. I am a metal guitarist and have been playing since i was 6 (i am 16 now) , I have never really used bar chords I mostly use Power Chords and scales to solo off of. I am in a band and we maby use bar chords in 2 songs, so to me I don't think it matters what you learn first
