Shellac - Prayer To God
from the album "1000 Hurts",
released in August 2000 by Touch & Go.

Uploaded in order to provide direct comparison with live versions (several already available).

Lyrics:
To the one true God above:
here is my prayer -
not the first you've heard, but the first I wrote.
(not the first, but the others were a long time ago).
There are two people here, and I want you to kill them.
Her - she can go quietly, by disease or a blow
to the base of her neck,
where her necklaces close,
where her garments come together,
where I used to lay my face...
That's where you oughta kill her,
in that particular place.
Him - just fucking kill him, I don't care if it hurts.
Yes I do, I want it to,
fucking kill him but first
make him cry like a woman,
(no particular woman),
let him hold out, hold back
(someone or other might come and fucking kill him).
Fucking kill him.
Kill him already, kill him.
Fucking kill him, fucking kill him,
Kill him already, kill him,
Just fucking kill him!
Amen.

  • I liked the part where he said "kill him".

  • I listen to massive amounts of death metal and this is one of the heaviest and darkest songs I've ever heard.

  • Still a better love story than Twilight.

  • Classic love song

  • anthem to osama bin laden

  • What was it you wanted me to do with him again?

  • @cyberslick18 No doubt it's for the same reasons I like it lol

  • @cyberslick18 Just out of curiosity, why do you think it's awful?

  • @SWISSCOLORVISION Well it's hard to gain a big audience when all of the band members work other jobs and they only release an album every 7 years.

  • "The thinking, at the time," says Albini, "was that bands should want to play for as many people and as big an audience as possible And our thinking was that music culture isn't necessarily better when you lay it on with a ladle and spatter every potential person with your band. So I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with doing your thing and letting your natural audience find you."

Steve's wrong: Touch & Go worked hard promoting Shellac etc. I saw the hard work of that label.

  • @les907 Well... there is a lot of killing in the Bible.
