  • what do chains do? really wondering

  • Chains add more weight as the bar approaches the top of the movement. They are used for improving lockout strength.

  • Get a spotter!!! You'll be glad you did someday

  • Thanks for the suggestion. That's why I have the safety bars in the power rack.

  • It works better if the chains actually come off the ground at the top of the press.

  • Maybe for you. Definitely find what helps you the most. Each person will be different.

I set this up so the chain weight was completely deloaded at the bottom of the press. If the chains came off the ground at the top, the bar would become very unstable. That wasn't my goal.

  • @TModi just started this exercise a week or so ago and this answered my question why my trainer sets it up the way he does :-)

  • i bought some chains to. just started using them for bench, squat and deadlift . have they improved your raw bench at all since you have been using them? and how much of a difference between the weight at the top and the weight at the bottom do you suggest for maximal benefit?

  • I like the fact you are using chains. Thats great and it a decent weight you are throwing around as well. However you might find it of better benefit if you can somehow find a way to get more links to come off the ground to improve the power throughout the movement. Now I didnt say turn it into a stability exercise but choke the chain a little higher so it completely deloads but also you get more weight at the top. Just a suggestion. keep up the work.

  • you listen the same songs as i listen while lifting... thats cool =D

  • you know heavy lifters use often this suite. And the lift itself with a suite is lighter on the first part of teh lifte and heavy on the last part. Having that said with chains he will maximize his lift on the last part (the heaviest /w suite). Besides if he isnt a heavylifter than he is training a specific part of the lift. get it ?

  • To increase the locking weight instead of increasing the weight throughout the motion. As you lift the barbell the length of the chain that is hanging increases, thus adding more weight as you get close to the locking position.

  • That is hilarious!

  • why do people use chains instead of adding more wieght? Just curious
