*Immanuel Wallerstein's three volumes of The Modern World System track the construction of the System from that time, with the first volume being Capitalist Agriculture and the Origins of the European World-Economy in the Sixteenth Century
*Wallerstein provides a dramatic portrayal of the sordid origins of the world we inherit today, and the System from which find ourselves unable to escape. All people, households, identity groups and international actors are forced to act within the parameters of the World-System, which persecutes and destroys anomalous entities. It is for this reason alone that state socialism failed.
*Denial of the existence of the global social system and the obsession with national machinations produces failure, which is blamed on the unwitting. Therefore, it is wise to accept the existence of the Modern World System, and use that knowledge to determine how one will act in the world.
