Wright made several alterations to the design of Monona Terrace during his lifetime.
In 1990, Madison Mayor Paul Soglin resurrected Wright's proposal, which won narrow approval in a public referendum in 1992. Construction began two years later.
In 1997, nearly sixty years after Wright's original inception, Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center opened its doors. The final design as executed was by Taliesin architect (and former Wright apprentice) Anthony Puttnam, based somewhat on Wright's design.

  • It's a shame that Madison's Monona Terrace convention center wasn't built while Frank Lloyd Wright was alive and could have carried out the the way it should have been. The view of the building from across Lake Monona is beautiful. That much of it is Wright's design. The rest of the building is Tony Putnam's design that was hindered by tight budgets and insistence on square rooms. I don't think Frank Lloyd Wright would be happy about the "fake on the lake" being attributed to him.

  • i like the top part to the house...it reminds me of the guggenheim

  • my mom grew up in a frank lloyd wright style house
