Misha was a magnificent animal on a stage. He was willing to try many styles of dance and take risk. His Spectre was charming, sexy and danced well. I treasure the video of the performance and play it often for watching him is a joy always, but it was not an ideal part for this very manly male.
@intelegentable I'm a diehard fan & adore his tempestuous, passionate & manly style, it's unparalelled till tis day IMO. But in this one I agree with you. It's too androginous for him. Nureyev's port de bra is the best, he simply excelled in it. Misha was born for Don Quixote, Giselle & Carmen.
Baryshnikov was known for his athleticism and very masculine style of dancing. La Spectre is a very different style of dancing, demanding an almost androgynous kind of lightness and grace. He does a good job of it and I enjoy his version,Baryshnikov is to be commended for his versatiliity and how hard he worked to master diferent styles of dance. But for me Rudi and Manuel Le Gris perform this piece perfectly, delicacy and grace personified.
@anniemihn I agree with you on all points! But I really do. Nureyev was perfection in this. And Misha was made for the others!!
