Proof that God wants Mississippi State to lose.
In what has become known to Ole Miss and MSU fans as "The Immaculate Deflection," the 1983 Egg Bowl played in Jackson is notable because the wind helped preserve Ole Miss' 24-23 victory. Down by a point with 24 seconds left in the game, MSU kicked what would have been a 27-yard game winning field goal. MSU freshman kicker Artie Cosby kicked it straight and long and what appeared to be over the crossbar, but as the ball reached the goal posts, a 40 mph gusting wind suspended the ball inches from the uprights, after which it fell short of the goal post, securing the victory for the University of Mississippi - Ole Miss.

@ColReb2000 My point was that ole miss again had such an easy schedule that they could have won 6 games just by default. My point in this whole argument is that when you basically get an sec win handed to you via vanderbilt, it's easier to be closer to .500 in wins on the century. I also have the feeling that miss state and vandy are really the only sec teams ole miss can beat. You guys claim to not care about the egg bowl, but your team always says it's the most important game of the season.

@wtg2989 Well....since you wanna jump from year to year in this arguement, what about a Maine (a division II school) yall lost to. Every team has their bad beats man......that's part of college football.

@wtg2989 I forgot to mention....State played Vandy that year.

@ColReb2000 And I meant to say that middle tenn. had 7 wins that year, not 1 that was a typo. Doesn't matter because it was a win anyway. Anyway, you are dead wrong about, "the only reason state's schedule has been any tougher is because of sec scheduling." Total crap when discussing the 2009 season.

@wtg2989 Stupid....really? That year State finished last in the western division. That same year Ole Miss beat both Arkansas and LSU where as State lost to both.

@ColReb2000 Again, stupid: Houston and Georgia Tech were both very good when state played them in 2009. Ole miss played Northern Arizona and SE Louisiana. I'm aware of why sec teams have easier out of conference opponents. The point is that state would have gone bowling in 2009 if we had ole miss's out of conference schedule that year. 7 wins instead of 5. Oh, and btw, your last year to go bowling, state was actually the better team. You guys had no way of shutting down our offense.

@wtg2989 Just looked at the schedule for the upcoming season. State has Memphis, LA Tech, UAB, and UT Martin for out of conference games.
Ole Miss has BYU, S Illinois, Fresno State, and LA Tech.
For years both teams have scheduled "weaker" out of conference games because the SEC is friggin gauntlet for any football team.
The only reason State's schedule has been any tougher if because of the SEC scheduling not because of out-of-conference play.

@wtg2989 Also, Vanderbilt sucks in football. They have trouble beating their out of conference opponents most of the time. You think you are shedding light on things by looking up the easier matches state has had? LOL State's schedule the last 2 years was voted the toughest in 2009 and top 5 toughest in 2010. Every now and then you will have some easy wins. But ole miss has had some really easy teams to play the last few years. In 08 ,auburn and arkansas were pretty easy. In 09 they were decent.

@ColReb2000 Ok, so lets look at ole miss's last trip: Northern Arizona, SE Louisiana, Memphis( a 1 win team), and UAB were all Ole miss's out of conference schedule. State's was Middle Tenn. (1 win team), GT (Went to Orange Bowl) Houston( Best Pass O in NCAA). Ole miss also had... VANDY! That's 5 wins by default. The only big win you had was LSU. State would have gone to the cotton bowl had the west not been nothing but teams with 9 wins as the lowest amount this past season.
