Smith tries to hit Superman...Smith is only human in the real world..Breaks his hand and Superman offers to just take him to the hospital rather than beat him to a pulp as it would be if their characters were in real life.
We already saw this when Smith entered the "real world" in Matrix Revolutions and fought Neo. Smith had no special abilities in the real world so Superman would not be threatened in the slightest.
This whole movie while fun has major plotholes like that.
