This evening a Major fire broke out at Midland Power Machinery Distribution in Orchard street, Diglis. As the flames took hold many residents were evacuated.
The fire was feet away from residents houses, a man took hold of a child's arm and led him to safety. The firemen battled the raging flames to stop the fire from spreading to the nearby houses. Toxic fumes from the factory blew across the Diglis area as the fire took hold.
Firemen moved people on and advised then to put their cameras away. The area was cleared due to the expectancy that acetylene bottles were about about to explode.
Eventually the police arrived and condoned off a 300 metre area around the fire.
As a precaution the ambulance service stood by and more fire appliances were moved in to help with the fire.
Police expect the firemen to be there all night.
