This video shows how to install Windows 7 (or Windows Vista) from a USB flash drive or USB hard drive. Copy the files to your USB device, use diskpart to make the partition active, and use bootsect to write the bootcode.
Insert the flash drive into the computer and set it to boot from USB (refer to manual) - most newer computers should be able to boot to usb. Install Windows like you normally would from DVD.
This method should also work if your computer has a card reader, such as for SD cards. If anyone tries this with an SD card, let me know if it works!
Question: If I configure this once, do I have to do it again for another format? Also will I be able to format an empty hard drive with it?

@mynameissukeable same here... did you make a partition on a external hard drive with data already on it? or was it a clean drive.? I really need to know this

I have an external 500GB HDD with data on it.... I made a bootable 5GB partition.. then I used it with my net book... but the part at 1:31 is taking FOREVER! I have no idea how long or why its taking this long.
