Goodnight Saigon - Billy Joel
This was a project for school in eighth grade...and these pictures are extremely powerful for me. Particularly the classics of Phan Thị Kim Phúc running down the street after being burned by napalm, the burning monk, and the man with the gun and guitar.
At the time I made this it was just a project, but after having received comments on this post from veterans and seeing my mom cry as she watched it (and receiving a 100 grade to boot) it certainly means more to me than that. It's two years later and I feel much differently about this video than I did then.
The song itself has changed for me. I can't listen to it without seeing the images I saw while looking for war pictures.

For the record...though I realize war is necessary sometimes, I am generally a pacifist, and I am as sympathetic towards the Vietnamese soldiers as I am towards American ones.

  • great vid billy joel is so cool saute to the army and was that an American burning on 3:40

  • that's the famous picture of the burning monk...i know a lot of the pictures don't fit but you can imagine how difficult it is to find enough pictures related to the vietnam war to fill a 7 minute video..

  • We met as soul mates On Parris Island We left as inmates >From an asylum And we were sharp As sharp as knives And we were so gung ho To lay down our lives We came in spastic Like tameless horses We left in plastic As numbered corpses And we learned fast To travel light Our arms were heavy But our bellies were tight
  • We had no home front We had no soft soap They sent us Playboy They gave us Bob Hope We dug in deep And shot on sight And prayed to Jesus Christ With all our might We had no cameras To shoot the landscape We passed the hash pipe And played our Doors tapes

  • @Taxo37hi South Asia(read that Afghan & Iraq) the oil powers collectively own them now. By oil powers I don't mean the US or UK. I mean the cos. that control the politicians who give them whatever they want to keep that oil secure. To think that it's something besides oil doesn't wash. Go back & look at Ken Lay, Enron, & their faithful dog half-wit. We have no business there; not for any reason. China & India want that oil wealth BAD. Bin Ladin laughs his ass off everyday. Anybody remember him?

  • What an important and underrated albun The Nylon Curtain was. Wake up America! Who knows? All of those innocent people in the World Trade Centre might be with their families today if common sense and humanity had prevailed instead of greed anf teh American dollar.
