The world's largest pear-shaped diamond will be auctioned at Sotheby's in Geneva, Switzerland. Known as the "Sun-Drop", the yellow diamond could be worth up to $15 million.

Sotheby's auctions will sell the world's largest pear-shaped fancy vivid yellow diamond for an estimated amount between $11 and 15 million dollars.

Despite its rarity and the high estimation of the diamond, that has been named Sun-Drop, Sotheby's believes the diamond will have a buyer.

[David Bennett, Co-Chairman of Sotheby's in Switzerland]:
"Well, I mean, 11-15 million dollars is a very correct price, correct estimate, I think, for this stone. But you seem shocked by the sum. I mean, this time last year in Geneva, we sold a diamond for 46 million dollars, so there are buyers for important very rare colored diamonds, and this is one of them."

The Sun-Drop diamond weighs 110,03 carats.

And according to Sotheby's, diamonds weighing more than 100 carats are very rare just like its color "fancy vivid yellow."

The diamond was only discovered last year in South Africa.

Since then, the diamond has been cut into its current shape and put on exhibition at the London Natural History Museum.

It then traveled the world and finally arriving in Geneva to go on auction next Tuesday.

Exceptional and highly estimated diamonds are often put at auction in Geneva.

Last year Sotheby's sold the diamond "Graff Pink" for $46 million.
