  • Endoscopy is considered less reliable for several reasons, one of which you mentioned - missing areas that are damaged and thereby giving a false negative diagnosis.

    The even larger issue, and the reason I consider them no longer the gold standard, is the lack of sensitivity. So much damage must occur before a diagnosis is made that too many are suffering for too long before they are told that gluten is creating their ill health.

    Better testing is available as I mentioned on the video.

  • I recently read that endoscopy was considered less reliable simply because of the high variability of destruction of the villi...it can be negative many times because they may not select an area that is affected.
