Bibi Gurdev Kaur OBE in her Kirtan performed at Gurdwara Singn Sabha, Jallandhar on 23rd February 2002 talks about the role of Sikh women in history and the present state of affairs amongst young Sikh girls in overseas and India. There is a trend of cutting hair and not wanting to marry a guy with turban. Bi biji thinks that it is because we do not tell these girls about their history and celebrate prominent sikh women's days in the Gurdwaras. Whereas young boys have many male role models and these are celebrated all the year around, the girls have no one to look upto as we do not celebrate our Gurus' Mothers, Gurus' Daughters, Girus' Wives etc. Sikh Nari Manch has been celebrating Mata Sahib Kaur's Birthday since 1999 and has produced calendars on prominent Sikh women's names.
