Pinto abalone is a "species of concern" on the Pacific coast, and efforts are underway to help restore the population. This video shows that latest outplanting effort in March 2011, during which over 2000 abalone were released into Puget Sound.

    So private abalone farms and ignorant fish and game officials destroy our abalone populations then tax payers spend ridiculous amounts attempting to salvage it. Not right on........

    Good work for the Pinto Abalone I hope they will recover from over fishing.When I was in California I only saw the Haliotis rufescens,H.fulgens,H cracherodii and H.corrugata
