I always find it better to sleep off the ground in sub zero temps. Constructing a bed about 6 or 8 inches off the ground using a tarp and 2 poles is the best way... you can then push hot rocks from around the fire under the raised bed, or stuff loosely with dry ground litter for a good 6 to 8 inches of dead air between your body and the ground. You can usually make it much more comfortable as well.
