The chainsaw sawmill, capable of milling logs up to 28" in diameter and 16.5 feet long, is built on a 23 ft. travel trailer frame, powered by a Stihl 066 chainsaw. The carriage rolls on roller blade wheels. The saw is raised and lowered on threaded rods, each turn moves the saw 1/10 of an inch. The carriage is moved forward by a fine cable wound around a winch made from a bicycle hub.

  • The hand crank is a front wheel hub from a 10 speed bicycle. I found a hub which has slightly larger than average diameter. The threaded axle was then adjusted so it was offset as far as possible to one side of the hub. The axle was now flush on one side and extended about 1.5 inches on the other side. I drilled a suitable sized hole in the upright, put the axle through the hole and tightened it in place with the bicycle nut.

The crank feed is absolute essential for this mill.
