Just some game play quality testing with our older Blackmagic Intensity HDMI card and the new Blackmagic Decklink HD Extreme 3 card. We generally use high end encoding for Broadcast television spots but it was interesting to see how they would compare in regards to gaming footage.

In this encode we used:
Adobe Premiere Pro CS4
Blackmagic Intensity Pro
2 10ft HDMI v1.3c cables

For broadcast we use:
Avid Symphony Media Composer
Blackmagic Decklink HD Extreme 3
Panasonic DVCPRO HD, Sony HDW500 for tape etc...
12 SDI cables, 2 10ft HDMI v1.3c cables plus lots more
8.5 TB of storage using Avid ISIS Interplay

The first upload from 1080i was transcoded incorrectly by Youtube's stupid software. We had to convert the 1080i to 1080p but none the less here it is. The broadcast world still uses 1080i at most stations. Since youtube is only a consumer environment, I guess exceptions have to be made. yay.

  • you know for $800 this isnt very good. The HD PVR Shoots This Quality If Not Better for $200.

  • @TheHelpfulGuy Part of the problem with this test was it being ran on old software from Blackmagic. Since then we've updated to 3.9.1 and started to use VirtualDub for no recompression edits.

Perhaps we'll try to get a close comparison between the two at some point. It really comes down to convience n quality. HD PVR saves hard drive space by compressing to mp4/tmp but lacks with no hdmi in. Component is okay but not great.

  • hey do you got more 59.94 fps vids?? i could help you with editing

  • @BlueToxiiC yup, we have about 2.5tb of gaming videos off our 8.5 storage array. Most of our editing is done as-needed but thanks for the offer. We've been keeping the quality as high as possible and not recompressing the stream by using virtualdub. That allows us to chop up the footage easily for storage. If we ever get time we'll throw in some clips into AE but most likely will keep that for the paying customers

  • you suck why would you get a cap card this nice

  • @malcolmisk00l broadcast video editing mainly. i work at a tv company. we only game for fun.

  • Noobtube and camper -.-'

  • At Least its 59.94 FPS

  • @TheHelpfulGuy intensity pro is also made by black magic and is a lot better than a pvr

decklinks are even better than intensitys and pvrs when the correct settings and CC are used

  • @TheHelpfulGuy They cos the same and the blackmagic runs hdmi and looks way better. But it requires usb 3.0 :(

  • @Jsquadfuries It says Quality Test.. Which means nitpick at everything related to quality.

  • @rossgeddes93 WOW you care about the bottom left corner? i would be happy with a fucking easycap and easycap quality is fucking 50x worste then the bottom left corner of this HD sexyness
