For about ten minutes on MSNBC Monday, Harvard History professor Niall Ferguson offered a articulate, detailed, and biting indictment of President Obama's handling of the crisis Egypt -- and those disagreeing on the usually Obamaphilic "Morning Joe" panel could offer little of substance in response.

Co-host Mika Brzezinski began the segment reading Ferguson's latest column -- which is the latest Newsweek magazine cover story -- and asked him to expound on Egypt, saying that "it actually seems like it went pretty damn well." Perhaps she is referring to the many joyful reports from Tahrir Square amidst jubilant masses, or maybe CBS' Harry Smith doling out kisses to the crowd -- but Ferguson offered a more dire assessment of the situation.

"You cannot make the foreign policy of a superpower up as you go along," Ferguson stated. He bludgeoned the Obama administration's slipshod policy, calling it "flip followed by flop followed by flip." He added that "they admitted that they had not planned for this scenario. I find that absolutely astonishing."

  • Did you see the look on her smug face? This channel was so stunned that they

had, no doubt accidently, booked a guest who was capable of independent thinking, that they were all speechless. I loved every second of this.

  • The female commenter is asking for the insults. Check her smug combativeness like she is offended by being challenged. Fuck her! She is a certifiable "SNOT" and it doesn't take a brain scientist to figure out that she thinks her shit doesn't smell. Somebody should throw her in a mud pit so the pigs can shit on her and her covergirl face. She annoys me.

Niall was spot-on in his analysis. They didn't know what hit them. Notice they offered nothing of substance in debating him.

  • Look at Egypt now and how right does this man sounds!

  • There's a difference between looking at photos of people cheering in the streets and waving their flags and shouting chants of democracy versus having a stable change in government power. Unfortunately, too many politicians and pundits are looking at Egypt as a second-American Revolution instead of a second-French Revolution. Would have been best to hold the applause and appraisals to the people of Egypt until they figure out what sort of "democratic" system they have in place

  • @mthakore ...like Nigel, i was telling any1 who would listen the same thing...this 'muslim spring' has nothing 2 do with democracy & everything 2 do with theocracy & u'd b a fool not 2 c it...u r correct about the future of the ME, altho its hard 2 imagine that place can go any further in2 hell than it already is!

  • Well looks like he was right about EVERYTHING and msnbc and the rest of the idiots in the Mainstream Media were wrong when any idiot who read the Middle East for Dummies could have told you what Niall so eloquently elaborated on. Prepare to see Islam in it's purest form. Prepare to see the Middle East go to hell.

  • Waaa

  • RaaS

  • to quote Henry kissinger on the subject " lets not delude ourselves we do not know what they're demonstrating for, what they're calling democracy is a change of regime possibly of leader, possibly a change of system, ... i think the american government has behaved skillfully and thoughtfully in this immediate period" I think Neal Ferguson's take on the issue is Pro-Israel and not necessarily pro America. He has the right to advocate and propagate his views, But Obama is cool headed, and im glad

  • Niall Ferguson for PM ! 1 of my pet hates is people having a go at America just for the sake of it. Especially people from countries which DONT have a Q to get IN. But i have to say this is impressive! Right or wrong everything about this was jaw dropping impressive! Unlike some, i dont have any insults for the Americans, who received it all very graciously. I would not like to find myself in a public argument with him or Jeremy Paxman. Agree stig - how DO u fit this guys balls in the room?
