On Saturday, Benedict XVI will receive in audience Michelle Bachelet, president of Chile, and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, president of Argentina. The occasion will mark the 25th anniversary of the Peace and Friendship Treaty signed by the two countries on November 29th, 1984, under the mediation of the Vatican and led by John Paul II, which at the time avoided a conflict between Chile and Argentina. The intermediary of the conciliation was Cardinal Antonio Samorè, who had as one of his direct collaborators Archbishop Faustino Sainz, current Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain.
