Dark Souls: How to get the Scythe (Great Scythe) [Long Version]

Sure, it may look simple from this video.
It is actually pretty difficult to clear the area and get to the scythe.

Recommended Soul level: 20+
I got through at Soul Level: 28

For those wondering how to get that second door down after the spiral staircase. Just keep going down the stairs and you'll find a necromancer. Push in that switch and the door is now open.
