3dsmax9.
2,005 tri poly mesh of Suzumiya Haruhi.

For the cell shading using the blend material with a gradient material (set to mapped with a fall-off shader set to shadow/light) controling the blend betweeen two 100& self illuminated standard shaders (one for the light areas the other for the shadows).
Mental Ray's contour shader for the linework.

From the amount of requests for this model I have uploaded it to
http://www.mediafire.com/?nxgtwoegeyj
And for those who don't like .rar files
http://www.mediafire.com/?xgjojmw1or2

I included an .obj of the model, the texture used for the eyes and a .blend for the blender users with the startings of a basic rig.

  • Awsome model but what is the diference between a low and a high poly model?

  • @Gartot22

Low poly means low amount of polygons (triangles in 3d space), i.e. a geometrically simpler shape.

High poly means the opposite, lots of polygons, a much more complex shape.

Low poly normally means something used for real-time use, i.e games.

High poly normally means something used for rendering/sculpting, etc.

  • thanks for sharing.

  • @platypusgreen Thank you.

  • @12345franny Probably the same as any other thing. By doing lots of it. Also by reading a fair few makings of on websites and tutorials.

I suppose the tutorial that helped me the most when I was learning to model was the well known 'Joan de arc tutorial' It's easy top find with a google search. Even though it was for 3dsmax, most of the methods can be used in Blender.

  • @platypusgreen Thanks a lot! How did you get so good at these sorts of things, anyway? :)

  • @12345franny Blendercookie (can't post link here) is quite a good place to find modelling tutorials for Blender. They have just started a new series on modelling the female body.

For low poly modelling I like to work with the box modelling methods.

For higher poly work I like to work on the edge loop method where you create poly loops around key areas then join these together.

Also don't forget to look at tutorials for other programs as the theory can often be applied to Blender.

  • @platypusgreen Thank you! I've downloaded, and by the way, it's a nice model, how did you make it? This may be asking for too much but... Can you give a tutorial or some quick tips on character modeling? I can't find a lot of 'em in Youtube, and the ones I do find are not so easy to follow. Yes, I am such a noob, I am a noob that knows the basics, (curve modeling, extrude, simple stuff) and not much more.. Please and thanks in advance, if ever you say yes.

  • @12345franny Sure, go ahead. That is why I uploaded the files for it.

  • Yay, you use Blender! Do you mind if I use this?
