Final Fantasy V is a medieval-fantasy role-playing video game developed and published by Square (now Square Enix) in 1992 as a part of the Final Fantasy series. The game first appeared only in Japan on Nintendo's Super Famicom (known internationally as the Super Nintendo Entertainment System). It has been ported with minor differences to Sony's PlayStation and Nintendo's Game Boy Advance. An original video animation produced in 1994 called Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals serves as a sequel to the events depicted in the game.

The game begins as a wanderer named Bartz investigates a fallen meteor. There, he encounters several characters, one of whom reveals the danger facing the four Crystals that control the world's elements. These Crystals act as a seal on Exdeath, an evil sorcerer. Bartz and his party must keep the Crystals from being exploited by Exdeath's influence and prevent his resurgence.

Final Fantasy V has been praised for the freedom of customization that the player has over the characters, achieved through the greatly expanded Job System.

EXTRA COMMENT: Hands down one of the most under-rated A+ games that the Super Nintendo had and was one of the first games to get translated thanks to fan content... the reason I named the main character Butz was because of the significance of the original translated patch... the game is memorable for it's battling system, the music, Butz, Gilgamesh and Exdeath make this game stand out against the future titles of this series.

  • @DiamondChrome42

    sounds horrible!

  • anyone remember when it was cool using cheat codes like gameshark and game genie? i never played FF unless i had infinite gil and 255 in every stat at level 5 :)

  • at 6:32, the player wasn't moving for a while. I thought I had to start playing for a second haha

  • can some one help me? there is a snes game ware you see a creepy ass trool at the door. scared the crap out of me as a kid.

  • FFIV was a brilliant game, with a dramatic and epic feel to its narrative, rather classically literate in its execution. And while I must say that I find it to be superior in this regard to FFV, FFV's cinematic style of narration was and is absolutely mindblowing and makes it THE definite forerunner to the narrative style employed in the "modern" FF games, I believe.

  • One of my favourite FFs. When my brother bought anthologies, I almost died. I never played a snes era FF at that point. And we decided to play one each at a time and I chose V and he got IV

  • Butz really lighten up the mood, really a good change from the dark and serious Cecil of FFIV. Especially if you play the Final Fantasy series in numbered order one after another.
