We are trackside as an east bound hot TOFC passes at 70 + mph with its outstanding K3LA horn blasting. The train is riding smooth on Santa Fe's razor straight, track. A second train passes with an ex-Amtrak SDP40F now classed as a Santa Fe SDF40-2. It is leading at a MUCH slower speed with a general freight train. Both trains are east bound at Williamsfield, IL. Thanks Cody for the title idea.6/13/1991 Thanks for watching, jackmp294.5™

  • WOW!!!! It looks more like 80 mph!! ;D

  • @trinityct If it isn't 80 mph! Its probably pretty darn close to it. I was going to write it in the video discription, but I have an BNSF 80mph pasing video on here, and even though we have a video of the speed-o-meter at 80, there are some saying, no way. I, and others say, YES! WAY! Thanks for watching...

  • @1jackdk Ah, those stupid skeptics. People are so sure that my 150 mph Acela video isn't 150 mph.......They shouldn't have skipped math and algebra class..... :P

you could say 75 mph as a compromise :)

  • @trinityct They probably never experienced the NEC, or went to math class, LOL. I rode from Philly to Newark back in the early 80's, and I remember passing a speed restriction sign that said 110. I thought! HOLY COW. Then after we passed the restriction, you could feel the train accelerating.

  • @ussoldierrail .. Not sure but this stuff is pricless to a RR collector. I cant belive the NS crewsbroke all the old plates ect into pieces. I am sure they were old passanger train dinner wear.

  • @1jackdk I looked down at the ballast pile and WOWA! I found lots of old real old glass jars, milk bottle, perfume bottle and little glass bottles. they were burried in the RR ballast and there was also plates and bowls with very old markings but they were all broke into small parts from equipment. I have the glass though and cleaned it tonight. Not sure but it was from the Pennsy era I am sure. As I said it was buried int he dirt mud and blallast and was along the road. very cool

  • love them sante fe warbonets. : < wish bn / sf never merged. miss my green / black bn

  • ahh yes, the good old days... great video!

  • Piff! Pigs, why not see a GEEP fly!?!?

  • @1jackdk Haha lol I have stood less than 5 feet from a 150 mph Acela!!!! INSANE!!!! :D You should check out Mansfield or Kingston sometime. Its AWESOME!!! :D

  • @CarNutandTrainNut2 Yeah, they did :P These units acted like the North East Corridors, E60MA's another 6 axle passenger diesel designed for Amtrak high speed service on the NEC. Both these types of engines would yaw, pitch, hunt and bounce vertically and side to side at the slightest issue with the track. amtrak restricted the E60MA's speeds from 125 mph to 90 (imagine it shaking that much at 125 mph!!!) and meanwhile the SDP40F's were sold to Santa Fe, and they restricted their speeds too.
