i agree with steve that all wars incluning our civil war were about economics. and slavery effected the economey, but it was the states right to allow or make illegal slavery. not the feds that is what i believe really sparked the war . had slavery died out through individual states outlawing its practice, i believe their would not have been a war against brothers such as their was.

Whether its over states rights or slavery, its still about economics. And even if its about slavery, its still about states rights. Its funny though that the southern states wanted freedom to deny freedom. They thought they deserved the freedom from the federal government to impose slavery. Freedom to deny freedom. What a shame.
