I do love that Scorpion. It's like the SR-71 blackbird of Famiclones.

If shipping wasn't such a joke, I would send you my Fami stuff (I don't really use it...). As soon as I have some spending money, it might just find its way on a plane headed your way! But don't hold me to it. :)

I won't hold you to it, though that would be incredibly cool.

I love the Blackbird comparison... they're such an incredible looking plane :D

This is very cool. Good luck getting more Famicom games! There are actually decent multicarts out there with 50-200 genuine Famicom/NES games, not horrible mutiliated sprite swap ones. As for game recommendations I would recommend looking up a Konami Famicom game called Moai Kun.

I've seen quite a few multicarts, though sadly none with so many games on. Doesn't look like ones with 3 - 4 games on are too hard to find though. Bootlegs, no doubt, but I'm not fussed if they play okay :)

My fave format is the Genesis cartridge :). I agree with everything you say man, consider me a regular viewer from now on. Amazing music recommendation man! Great video as always.

I have a lot of C64 5,25" Disks, some of them formatted in 1985, and they all still work! In contrast to that, lots of my Atari ST and Amiga Disks didn't work anymore quite early.

Cartridges. Wow! That's a really romantic, if slightly unrealistic, notion. There's a place in my heart for floppy discs. Even though they were dreadfully unreliable at the time (and even worse now it seems) there was something about the click-click-chug-chug loading sound that you got whilst waiting for "Insert disc 2" to appear.

Maybe there's some mileage in a 2600 cartridge style device that you could plug your newer formats into to make them look a bit retro.

Cartridges are pretty optimal IMO. After people are thoroughly sick of the DLC movement I hope there will be some sort of cartridge/USB hybrid that will proliferate.

Hmm, they do appear to be very rare on Ebay these days. That's unfortunate. I used to own a 42-in-1, a 110-in-1, and 310-in-1 Famicom carts as a child with mostly genuine and many rarer Japanese games. I don't have them anymore and would love to get them back.

Scorpion 8. Holy crap that's a nice looking bit of kit. I never liked the NES either, for pretty much the same reasons you pointed out ages ago. And of course, that it was bloody ugly. But yeah, I'd love a Scorpion 8. And a Scorpion 16 while I'm at it!

I'm all for digital distribution, as long as it's like GoG, where you basically just have the game as an installer and you're all set. It just unpacks the game and you play. No need for any connection to the Internet beyond downloading it. Everything having physical storage is ridiculous, to be honest For small games or for a company who doesn't have much money or wishes to distribute their games for free obviously can't require physical resources. There's also the environmental impact.

The 5 1/4 disks seem to be quite reliable - of the many I have had for years only a couple of them of have failed so far.

The 3 1/2 seem to be a crap shoot - good quality ones seems to be OK, but they are a lot of them that where lower quality especially the HD disks. I've had quite a few of them fail.
