Julian: Hey everybody. Thanks for joining me once again. I'm really excited because it's been one year. And that's the time when you figure it's all grown in now. So I came back and Dr. Gaffney, it's good to see you again. Thanks so much.

Dr. Gaffney: It's good to see you Julian.

Julian: I'm very happy with my progress after one year. But I wanted you to give me a check-up and hear from the horse's mouth what you think it's been for a year.

Dr. Gaffney: Certainly. All right.

Julian: So where was I?

Dr. Gaffney: Let's get a look here. We did 3,500 of our very finest hair grafts on February 14, Valentine's Day.

Julian: Do you have pictures in there for me a year ago.

Dr. Gaffney: I certainly do.

Julian: A lot of us obviously seen the many of me but the day of the surgery.

Dr. Gaffney: This is a...

Julian: That can't be me.

Dr. Gaffney: Here's Julian. That is you.

Julian: Wow.

Dr. Gaffney: That's why we take them Julian.

Julian: Wow. I know that I did most of it here on the crown and then a few on my temple but looking at this picture shows how much the temples have really filled in.

Dr. Gaffney: Yeah.

Julian: Because I had that hairline going like this.

Dr. Gaffney: In fact we did 500 at the hairline. We did 200 fine hair grafts which were singles and then we did a mix of ones and twos of what I call medium-fine hair. And that is

Julian: Now when I first saw you, we said 2,500 to 3,500 and I went for the whole 3,500.

Dr. Gaffney: Yes.

Julian: And now I would describe myself as thinning and not bald anymore.

Dr. Gaffney: Sure.

Julian: Why am I not completely full if I went for the full 3,500?

Dr. Gaffney: Well the size of the procedure is outlined relative to what's safe to attempt at a given time based on your scalp flexibility, based on the size of the area. Typically, I'll recommend a range of 2,500 to 3,500 for someone who looks like this guy. Okay.

Julian: So you don't do too many at one time for safety?

Dr. Gaffney: Exactly. On occasion, we'll do more than that but in your case, I saw that all things considered, that was the best for you that day.

Julian: Okay. That's fair. And how about my scalp and my donor area, the line where that came from...

Dr. Gaffney: Sure.

Julian: Is that healing properly.

Dr. Gaffney: Let's get a look at that. Well first, let's look back here where we placed the grafts. Oh, this is a large area. He's got a Class 6 pattern here. And we got nice growth on the grafts. There's still room for plenty more to be placed so we maybe discussing or recommending another procedure for you.

Julian: Okay.

Dr. Gaffney: The grafts are nice and delicate. It looks very natural and that's the key.

Julian: Now a lot of people asked me if I feel any tightness and I don't feel any tightness at all. I mean I have no idea anything's been done. But should I be doing anything? Is my skin still pliable, flexible?

Dr. Gaffney: Well let me get a look here.

Julian: Okay.

Dr. Gaffney: And well you're healing this line very nicely. Yeah, doing well. I'm very pleased with that.

Julian: You know I haven't seen...I looked for my scar line and I have not been able to see anything.

Dr. Gaffney: Well it's even better. [laughs]

Julian: So you did a very good job.

Dr. Gaffney: If you can't find it that's...

Julian: Of the suturing.

Dr. Gaffney: That's okay with me. But your flexibility's fairly decent but I think you can help us in preparation for another procedure should you choose by just massaging your scalp like I'm doing here. I try to get people to do it for 50 count if you will.

Julian: Mm...hmm.

Dr. Gaffney: Three or four times a day. And this will loosen things up and make the removal of your donor material easier for your next procedure.

Julian: So overall, you're happy though.

Dr. Gaffney: Yes, yes.

Julian: You're happy with the results after a year which you would have expected.

  • Ive been following this for the past year or so and I really have to say I expected much better results. Im actually much more worried now as Im thinning and probably will have maybe less than 5 years of hair left before I myself need a transplant.

  • @MASK81 If you look at the next blog (blog 33) Dr Gaffney said I needed more grafts but didn't want to do it in one whole session. I had no hair in my crown to begin with. Thinking about getting a second transplant now.

How much hair loss would you say you have now?

  • @FromBaldToBold I have a receding hairline and have noticed that I have lost about 50% density of my hair.

  • @MASK81 You should at least go in for a consultation, which is free. Wouldn't hurt to have them look at your hair and tell you how many grafts you would need and cost.

  • Good.U know.Still saving money for transplant..:)

  • @716A lol but weren't you trying other products at one point? How is that going?
