Verdi, Simon Boccanegra, piango perchè mi parla, Gobbi, Christoff

Why do we people need to reach extremities to conciliate with the past and forgive? In Verdi´s Simon Boccanegra it was all about power. In ordinary people lives is about what? Or about what kind of power specifically?

"Piango perchè mi parla..." is the duet (actually the final quartet of the 3rd and last act) between Fiesco and dying Simone where the old fools at last forgive each other, realized that they spent their entire life hating each other, looking for power and regretting for the beloved lost persons. Then, they weep like children. And we, opera lovers we love this scene, carried away by the music and the vocal lines, often forgetting what was the whole thing about.

S. Boccanegra takes place in Genoa, but I chose venetian paintings for the video since they seemed more theatrical.

Tito Gobbi is Simone (or Simòn, or Simon- I never quite understood which the right Italian spelling is) and Boris Christoff is Fiesco. Stage and vocal sovereigns. Gabriele Santini conducts the Orchestra del Teatro dell' Opera di Roma. Victoria de los Angeles was their Amelia. It was in 1958 for EMI (dear company give me a break and do not delete my video).

Petros tu es un vrai génie ! chanter ce duo à Gêne et les peintures sur Venise, même Manet est venu écouter ce grand air dramatique de Verdi :))) entendre Boris Christoff est un très grand plaisir pour moi. C'est un disque rare, c'est une grande chance pour nous de l'entendre !
