Part one of four of an hour long recording from Race Day 1980 on radio station WIBC in Indianapolis. In this fifteen minute recording you will hear traffic reports with Big John Gillis, Paul Casey, Weather, Local and National News with Ray Rice, and the Sunday morning dj Orly Knutson. As one would expect on race day, there are some pre race interviews before the Indy 500, and a few commercials from Hooks Drug Stores, IMAX Coal, Anchor Standard Federal Savings, Weaver Northern Fried Chicken, and WIBC jingles. Also this was from a time when WIBC played music about once a quarter.
@200WD45 Not sure if it is Ed Bruce, but I would say the commercial reminds me of other voice overs from that day. We were still in the height of the Smokey and the Bandit, Dukes of Hazzard, Urban Cowboy, and the trucker and CB radio craze. The deep voiced country man was a trusted person

@rebelrecycler as far as I know, enjoying the retirement life. He did make a cameo appearance on WKLU during their last hour of being an independently owned rock station before it was taken over by the Christian group who owns it now, He had great things to say about KLU as it reminded him about how radio was when he started

Simply awesome! The singer on the Coal commercial during the newscast; Ed Bruce, I think? Certainly sounds like him.
